The Sartorial Sleuth Heads To Austenland

Romance is definitely not dead in Austenland, the costumed Rom-Com opening tonight. Austenland is a fantasy camp where damsels dress-up in frilly frocks to woo their Mr. Darcy. Unlike today’s form-fitting "body con" styles, back in Jane's day, ladies lured suitors with layers and lace. As the film’s slogan says, want to “make your fantasy a reality?"  Stroll over to Echo Park for frippery fit for an English garden. Owner/stylist Erin Tavin’s eponymous shop, Tavin, is a fashionista utopia. At Flounce, the vintage gems are hand-picked by owner Lisa Gerstein. Leave it to these two ladies to be anything but Plain Jane.

I snapped up my YSL heels at a store called Tavin in Silverlake. Total score! They are reminiscent of the Prabal's but they wind up higher on the leg. May 17, 2013 at 11:55 AM · Julie Ann Orsini said... They are tom ford for YSL ...

The top is Mexican, I believe, sourced from a vintage store in LA called Tavin. I bought it several months ago, but the store stocks pieces that are similar, along with loads of ethnic-chic clothing. http://blogbytavin.blogspot.com/.

Field Trip: Echo Park Craft Fair (Part 3) - Tavin

There were some incredible vintage treasures to be found at the fair and Tavin (owned by stylist and costumer Erin) had a thoughtfully curated selection of vintage clothing as well as a great mélange of things for the home (like soaps from Big Sur and frasada blankets from Bolivia). I really loved how everything was artfully arranged on the tables and in the racks, and Erin was really cool about me taking lots of pictures (thanks Erin)! The clothing ranged from ethereal antique white embroidered dresses to '70s Indian cotton dresses. I had my eye on a paper thin silk Balenciaga blouse designed by Nicolas Ghesquière and a quintessential piece from Sonia Rykiel, a perfectly French striped sweater - very marinière ;)  There was also a cute pair of YSL platforms but they weren't my size.

Erin has a boutique in Echo Park and I'm really looking forward to checking it out in person with my sister - It sounds amazing!

TAVIN on Garance Dore

Tavin makes the list for one of L.A's best places for Vintage!

Here is the city guide of my friend Nicole Cari!
In the last few years I’ve fallen in love with the LA lifestyle (only thing is I am still not used to the idea of having to have a car…) but this is definitely a city where I’d love to go spend a few months one day. In the meantime, I ask my friends for their best adresses and each time I go there, I discover a new treasure!

Where is the best place for vintage?
Resurrection, Tavin, Scout, Rose Bowl Flea Market, and The Way we Wore.

Tavin for Best Bohemian Vintage from TimeOut LA

Best shops in LA: Time Out's top 10 vintage stores

From boho-romantic frocks to discount Dior, there's plenty of au courant fashion finds at these top 10 vintage stores, some of the best shops in LA.

Best for bohemian vintage: Tavin

Tavin Photographer: Ruthie Carl

"Time Out says

Shopping at Tavin makes us want to move to Laurel Canyon, take up landscape painting and walk around barefoot with flowers in our hair. Owner Erin Tavin, a wardrobe stylist and popular Rose Bowl vendor, has one of the most distinct points of view of any vintage dealer in Los Angeles, consistently curating an offering of boho-romantic ladies’ pieces—breezy Indian tunics, white cotton sundresses and lacy Victorian nightgowns, to name just a few. It’s also a popular spot for brides-to-be, and we suggest keeping tabs on the newest arrivals on the store’s Facebook page.

tavin-sale-300

Sequined green tap shorts. Riotously vibrant prints. Delicate gowns that would make Daisy Buchananswoon. Such is the wild variety stocked by the infinitely covetable Tavin boutique. Clothing buyer, stylist, and costumer Erin Tavin's eponymous L.A. shop boasts stunning statement pieces that run the gamut from hand-sewn boho dresses to funky jackets. But you don't have to break the bank to cash in on these one-of-a-kind goodies!

You might still be recovering from holiday retail trauma, but trust us, one look at these ultra-chic clothes and accessories and you'll be resuscitating your credit line stat. If you really need another reason to justify adding some of Tavin's far-out flair to your wardrobe, here's one: Take 10% off your purchases throughout January. Stop by the Echo Park location or its Etsy shop, and don't freak out if you can't choose between all the wondrous goods — you have all month to make up your mind.

When: Now through Thursday, January 31; Thursday through Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m.
Where: Tavin, 1543 Echo Park Avenue (between Delta and Grafton streets); 213-482-5832.

Erin Tavin gets interviewed on The Coffee Table

The Coffee Table with Erin Tavin

When it comes to gift giving, nothing is better than a one-of-a-kind gem!
That’s whereTavin Boutique in Echo Park, Los Angeles comes in.
When you walk in the door you’ll find vintage as well as contemporary
clothing, accessories, and home decor. Earlier this year, I interviewed the
store’s owner ( also a buyer, stylist, and costumer) for My Top 5
on Smashbox Studios’ Yello blog. I realized…if this lovely lady’s coffee
table is even half as cool as her store, we’re in for a treat.
Take your coffee break with this week’s guest:

What’s Brewing
THE HOLIDAYS AT TAVIN!!! We are filling the shop
with lots of beautiful gifts and holiday clothing to delight everyone.
I’m an east coaster and I grew up with ALOT of holiday influences:
Central Park, Rockefeller Center, the store windows on Fifth Ave, etc.
We have a big holiday party at the shop
that’s fun and festive with lots of sparkle, joy and drink!
Favorite Drink
Stumptown coffee preferably at a fave outdoor cafe in Portland or a
good hot chocolate with a little fresh whipped cream on a chilly day.
I love cozy stuff; walking around with my drink while I shop for the
store makes it all much cozier and sweet.
It’s The Little Things
  • reading by a fireplace
  • the wilds of Big Sur ( love Eselon hot baths there )
  • flea markets in Paris- oh what a lovely and heavenly day that is for me!
  • camping with my husband in amazing places!

My Coffee Table

on the table: a To-Do list which is HUGE !
I pull out the clip board when the list gets too long.
Francesa Woodman book from her show, handmade houses book,
and great spa and hot springs book.

Some of my favorite novels: the Dud Avocado
and Revenge of the Lawn– race to read the Dud Avocado
its a major favorite of mine!  I also have some rice hot cereal
with berries, bananas,and maple syrup
and a big cup of tea called “commune” from LA MILL.
Words of Wisdom
Follow that dream! There’s always a million and one reasons why
NOT to follow it and usually it involves money… but whats money
when it comes down to happiness and fulfillment right?
TIME MOVES FAST SO FOLLOW THAT DREAM NOW!!!
NOW NOW NOW!!!
